The major shift from Old Testament to New Testament produced new leadership. The priesthood changed from the formal and legalistic Levitical order to the charismatic Melchizedek order. Jesus Christ became the new leader.
Isaiah 55:4 NKJV
“Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, A leader and commander for the people.”

Christ was anointed for signs and wonders.
Acts 10:38 KJV
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Christ is our exalted leader.
Philippians 2:9-10a NKJV
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow”

Christ and His children are for signs and wonders.
Isaiah 8:18 NKJV
“Here am I and the children whom the Lord has given me! We are for signs and wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, who dwells in Mount Zion.”

Christ our Leader was more anointed than all other leaders. In the first chapter of Hebrews, our Lord Jesus’ leadership is proven to be superior to that of angels.
Hebrews 1:7-8 NIV
“In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels spirits, and his servants flames of fire.” But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.”

Christ’s leadership was founded on His love for righteousness and His hatred for sin and evil.
Hebrews 1:9 ESV
“You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.”

Christ our Leader embodied all the perfect leadership qualities.
May the Lord greatly anoint you with gladness and joy. May the vital leadership qualities of the Messiah be established in your life, in Jesus’ name.

Major shifts will always produce a new breed of leaders. The shift from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant required a change of the priesthood.
Hebrews 7:12 NKJV
“For the priesthood being changed, of necessity there is also a change of the law.”

The new leadership belonged to the order of Melchizedek. The Melchizedek order was very charismatic while the Levitical order was formal and highly regimented.
Hebrews 6:20 NKJV
“Where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.”

Melchizedek came to meet Abraham returning from battle, without any human appointment. There is no indication that the two men had ever met before. Melchizedek knew Abraham in the spirit. He came to meet Abraham by the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Genesis 14:18 NKJV
“Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High.”

Bread and wine are the elements of Holy Communion. The anointed priest Melchizedek served Abraham with bread and wine, by revelation.
Melchizedek also blessed Abraham. Conferring blessings was a sign of a higher spiritual authority.
Hebrews 7:7 NKJV
“Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better.”

Abraham had the promises of God but Melchizedek had a higher rank. Abraham recognized a man of higher rank and paid tithes to him.
Hebrews 7:4 NKJV
“Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils.”

Christ came from the anointed and supernatural order of Melchizedek. Christ performed signs and wonders.
Isaiah 8:18 KJV
“Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.”

You are part of the supernatural priesthood. You are for signs and wonders. May the Lord’s anointing on your life produce many wonders, in Jesus’ name.

The main difference between Jews and Gentiles was a body of Laws which God gave to the Jews to keep.
Ephesians 2:14-15a NIV
“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations.”

The Jews are descendants of Abraham but so also were the Ishmaelites, Midianites, Edomites etc.
Abraham had eight sons. The nations that came out of seven of his sons were not Jewish.
Genesis 25:12 NIV
“This is the account of the family line of Abraham’s son Ishmael, whom Sarah’s slave, Hagar the Egyptian, bore to Abraham.”

Ishmael produced the Ishmaelites.
Abraham had six more sons by Keturah.
Genesis 25:1 NIV
“Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah.”

Keturah bore six sons for Abraham.
Genesis 25:2 NIV
“She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.”

Midian produced the Midianites. Moses’ wife was a Midianite. They were descendants of Abraham but they were not Jews. The Jews were the particular descendants of Abraham through Isaac.
Romans 9:7 NIV
“Nor because they are his descendants are they all Abraham’s children. On the contrary, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”

Even then, not all Isaac descendants became Jews. Only those who came through Jacob became Jews. Isaac’s descendants through Esau became the Edomites.
God chose to make a covenant with the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and through Jacob. God gave them Laws in this covenant that made them a peculiar people. This covenant was sealed by circumcision.
Acts 7:8a NIV
“Then he gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision.”

May the love of God and the grace of Jesus Christ lift you above every limitation. May you be filled with all the fullness of Christ, in Jesus’ name.

The Jews prided themselves in their blood relationship with Abraham.
John 8:39a KJV
“They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father.”
Jesus said their blood relationship with Abraham alone was not enough.
John 8:39b KJV
Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.”

They needed to have the faith of Abraham.
Galatians 3:7 NKJV
“Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.”

Faith in Christ connects all men to Abraham.
Galatians 3:29 NKJV
“And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Jesus Christ is the central figure of human history. Salvation comes through Him.
Romans 10:13 NKJV
“For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

You can only call on Christ to save you, if you believe in Him. You can only believe according to the knowledge you receive.
Romans 10:14 NKJV
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

Faith in Christ, is more than just a mere belief that He once lived on this earth. We receive faith in Christ by hearing the gospel.
Romans 10:17 NKJV
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

A person’s ethnicity, tribe, colour are all irrelevant. What matters is a person’s faith.
Job 8:7 NKJV
“Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.”

Gentiles who began with nothing are now blessed greatly.
Romans 9:30 NKJV
“What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;”

Through faith you will excel in every activity of your life. You will be unlimited. You will attain excellence in all your pursuits, in Jesus’ name.

The word of God is the foundation of every true move of God. God does nothing on the spur of the moment. Almighty God has planned all His works from the beginning.
Acts 15:18 KJV
“Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.”

God planned the salvation of the Gentiles from the beginning. Indeed God’s promise to Abraham included the Gentiles.
Galatians 3:8 NKJV
“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.”

God said to Abraham that he would become a blessing to all nations. Abraham would be a blessing to the Jewish nation as well as the Gentile nations.
Indeed at the time God spoke to Abraham, all nations were Gentile nations. The Jewish nation was formed hundreds of years afterwards by Abraham’s descendants.
One major shift that occurred was the shift from approaching God through the Law to coming to God through faith.
Abraham himself was a Gentile. He obtained righteousness before God through his faith.
Genesis 15:6 NIV
“Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.”

Abraham’s relationship with God was founded upon his faith. Abraham became the friend of God through his faith.
James 2:23 NIV
“And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend.”

Apostle Paul declared that if Abraham obtained righteousness by his faith, then all men of the same faith, will also obtain righteousness.
Romans 4:13
For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

May you please God by operating in faith just like Abraham did. You will achieve great things by faith in God, in Jesus’ name.

Small changes can lead to very major shifts.
Do not despise small beginnings.
All that Almighty God asked Peter to do initially was just to accompany Cornelius’
messengers to the Gentile man’s home.
A small step, but today billions of Gentiles have become Christians.
Job 8:7 NKJV
“Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly.”

Greatness comes out of small things.
Isaiah 60:22 NKJV
“A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation.”

God chose Peter to begin the move of the gospel to the Gentiles.
Acts 15:7 NKJV
“And when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.”

Great shifts have certain key factors.
Divine backing
It was God who sent the angel to tell Cornelius to call for Peter.
Acts 10:22 NKJV
“And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you.”

Willing People
Men and women who are willing to both count the cost, and also pay the price for change.
Peter was willing to face the misunderstanding of the church at Jerusalem.
Psalms 110:3a KJV
“Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power”

Uncommon Faith
Great change requires strong faith.
God commanded Peter to erase all his doubts.
Acts 10:19-20 NKJV
“While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

Divine Timing
The messengers of Cornelius arrived at Peter’s gate at the exact time that Peter was thinking about the meaning of his vision.

May all things work together for your good in God’s perfect timing.
May you possess all the requirements for a great shift in your career, in Jesus name.

Peter rejected the instructions to eat the unclean animals in the sheet from heaven three times. The vision was repeated three times.
God was determined to change his attitude.
Acts 11:10 NKJV
“Now this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.”

Major shifts require some key attitudes.
An openness of mind to God’s revelation.
We must constantly be in a prayerful study of God’s word in a search for truth.
2 Timothy 2:15
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

A readiness to change our actions and words to line up with the truth we have received.
James 1:22 NKJV
“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

“Flexibility and Pliability”
Change often happens in small degrees. Peter couldn’t be changed by one vision.
He needed the vision to be repeated three times.
We must not be so stubborn that God cannot easily persuade us.
Psalms 32:9 NIV
“Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.”

Readiness to take a risk
Major changes usually shakeup the existing order. Peter going to the Gentiles was risky.
If the Jerusalem church failed to understand him, he could face a church split or even be fired from his job as Head Pastor.
Isaiah 41:10a NKJV
“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.”

Singleminded focus
Double minded people are defeated already.
James 1:8 KJV
“A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”

The Lord commanded Peter to go with Cornelius’ men doubting nothing.
Acts 10:20 NKJV
“Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

May everything you put your hand to do be graciously blessed to succeed beyond your highest dreams.
May the Lord enable you to undergo beneficial major shifts, in Jesus’ name.

Major shifts are usually initially greeted with reluctance, suspicion, fear and distrust. Peter’s initial response to the instruction to eat unclean animals was an emphatic, “no.”
Acts 11:8 NIV
“I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’”

That was true but something major had changed.
God had cleansed the unclean animals and made them clean.
Acts 11:9 NIV
“The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’”

There had been a major shift. What used to be unclean was now clean.
Every major shift involves major changes to existing laws or new revelations and discoveries.
The conversion of Cornelius and his family and friends has been made possible by a change in the law.
Apostle Paul had a revelation of this mystery.
Ephesians 3:4 NIV
“In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,”

Previous generations did not know this revelation.
Ephesians 3:5 NIV
“Which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets.”

Other generations didn’t know that God was going to save Gentiles with the same salvation as the Jews.
Messiah would be for both Jews and Gentiles.
Ephesians 3:6 NIV
“This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.”

Glory to God.
What a major shift indeed.
The early apostolic church was a 100% Jewish church.
After the conversion of Cornelius’ household, the church rapidly became the Universal Church that it is today.

May you receive the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God.
May your life be constantly undergoing Divine changes through revelation, in Jesus’ name.

Peter had to explain his visit to Cornelius, to convince those of the Circumcision. These were the people who had become born-again but still rigidly adhered to the Old Testament Law and customs. Peter explained the events that had led to the major shift in his doctrines and beliefs.
Acts 11:4-5 NKJV
“But Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying: “I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me.”

Peter was praying when he saw the vision. Several people saw visions in the Scriptures, whilst praying.
Almighty God loves to talk back to His children when His children talk to Him in prayer.
Jeremiah 33:3 NIV
“Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’”

God reveals many secrets to His children In times of prayer and fasting.
Acts 13:2 NIV
“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Almighty God often talks to His children through dreams and visions.
Acts 2:17 NIV
“‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions,
your old men will dream dreams.”

Fortunately, the “Circumcision group” that confronted Peter, believed in visions.
Peter narrated his vision.
Peter described the huge sheet from heaven filled with unclean animals, and the voice that commanded him to kill and eat.
Acts 11:7 NIV
“Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’”

He told them of his refusal to eat anything unclean, and how the vision recurred thrice. Peter told of the audible voice of God, that commanded him to go with Cornelius’ men.

May you have grace to be flexible enough, to follow God wherever He leads. May God’s Hand defend and support you as you undergo major shifts, in Jesus’ name.

The conversion of Cornelius and his family and friends constituted a dramatic major shift in the Early Church.
This was simply because Cornelius and his company were Gentiles.
For a number of years of the Early Church, they firmly believed that salvation was exclusively for the Jews.
They made no attempt to preach to Gentiles.
Then they received some unexpected news.
Acts 11:1 NKJV
“Now the apostles and brethren who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.”

The conversion of Cornelius and his group became a “Breaking News” item in the church at Jerusalem.
The Early church received the news with shock and surprise.
Some factions of the church were outraged and angry.
Acts 11:2-3 NKJV
“And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those of the circumcision contended with him, saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them!”

This shift was so exceptional and unexpected, that it created a crisis in the church at Jerusalem. A faction in the church rose up to criticize and oppose Peter.
Every major shift creates different responses in different people.
The Fence-sitters
Some will adopt a “wait and see” attitude.
They will wait on the sidelines, to see how the shift will work out.
Diehard supporters
Some will be supportive and cooperative.
These are the fully committed ones.
Tradition Defenders
Some will be adamantly opposed. These are the traditionalists. They hate all change.
To successfully manage major shifts, a leader must have wisdom to respond properly to these three groups.
Peter responded wisely to those who rose up to fight him.
Acts 11:4 NKJV
“But Peter explained it to them in order from the beginning, saying:”

May you be ready and prepared for Divine major shifts.
May God give you abundant wisdom to manage the side effects of the major shifts, in Jesus’ name.
