Divine Responses to Sacrifice 2
By Rev Robert Ampiah-Kwofi

Abraham received two instructions from God to bring very specific sacrifices.
The first was the instruction to bring five animals.
He obeyed, and God made an everlasting covenant with him.
Several years later, Abraham again received a command to sacrifice his son Isaac.
Genesis 22:2 NIV
“Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Abraham promptly obeyed and took Isaac to Moriah, and prepared to sacrifice him.
Genesis 22:9 NIV
“When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.”

Abraham raised his knife to kill Isaac.
Genesis 22:10 NIV
“Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.”

God stopped him.
Genesis 22:12 NIV
“Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

Abraham lifted his eyes and saw a ram trapped in the bushes.
He sacrificed the ram instead.
Genesis 22:13 NIV
“Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.”

Abraham called the place Jehovah Jireh which means the Lord will provide.
Genesis 22:14 NKJV
“And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”

The ram’s horn is its greatest
weapon. God neutralized that weapon!
The ram could not escape, neither could it fight Abraham, because it’s horns were trapped in the bushes.
Then the Lord blessed Abraham.
Genesis 22:17a NIV
“I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.”

May you lift your eyes and see Almighty God’s abundant provision for your life.
May God’s provision never escape your hands, in Jesus’ name.
