Notable Sacrifices 6
By Rev Robert Ampiah-Kwo
Cain’s religious sacrifice to a loving God, unfortunately ended up in murder and bloodshed.
Cain, through a series of mistakes and character flaws, became the first murderer on planet earth.
Cain refused to kill an animal as a sacrifice, but he readily killed a human being for no good reason.
Genesis 4:8 NKJV
“Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.”

In the world today, religion remains a major cause of conflict and bloodshed.
Cain killed Abel because of religious differences.
We must go beyond mere religion and develop a personal relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 1:12 NKJV
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

Abel had no idea of the murderous hate in Cain’s heart.
There had not been any direct confrontation between the brothers.
There was no logical reason for Cain’s actions.
The only explanation was that Cain had become possessed by an evil spirit.
1 John 3:12 NIV
“Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.”
Satan had gained possession of Cain’s soul.
God had warned Cain of such a possibility.
Genesis 4:7 NKJV
“If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
God warned Cain that a particular sinful evil spirit was lying in wait, at the door of his heart.
The evil spirit of murder desired to enter Cain.
God said Cain could resist that evil spirit, by doing the right thing.
If Cain did the right thing, God would accept him and empower him to overcome evil.
James 4:7 NKJV
“Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
May God’s Hand of power be upon you.
May you overcome all evil plots of the devil, in Jesus’ name.
