Morning Message of Motivation – The Shift 13

By Rev. Robert Ampiah-Kwofi
Compliance with God’s instructions requires self discipline.
Israel would need national discipline to follow God’s laws fully.
God’s blessings were a motivation to Israel to exercise the required discipline.
Proverbs 29:18 ESV
“Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.”
Respect for the reward is a great motivator.
Hebrews 11:26 ESV
“He (Moses) regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.”
David fought Goliath after he was motivated by the reward offered by king Saul.
1 Samuel 17:25 ESV
“And the men of Israel said, “Have you seen this man (Goliath) who has come up? Surely he has come up to defy Israel. And the king will enrich the man who kills him with great riches and will give him his daughter and make his father’s house free in Israel.”
David asked for the confirmation of the reward and then committed himself to the battle.
1 Samuel 17:26 ESV
“And David said to the men who stood by him, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
The men confirmed that the rumors that David had heard were in fact true. David’s eldest brother tried to discourage him with criticisms, but David turned away from him and focused on the reward.
1 Samuel 17:30
“And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke in the same way, and the people answered him again as before.”
David turned from Eliab and again asked about the reward on offer.
The men confirmed the reward again as before.
After that David committed himself to fight the giant.
1 Samuel 17:32 ESV
“And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
May God’s rewards always be before you.
May every Goliath standing between you and your reward fall, in Jesus’ name.
