The promises that God gave to Israel were actually an extension, and amplification of the promises that God gave to Abraham.
These promises were systematically set out by Moses in the book of Deuteronomy.
Israel had to meet some conditions, before God would manifest these blessings in their lives.
Deuteronomy 28:1 NIV
“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.”
If Israel fulfilled the condition of total obedience to God’s Law, then God would promote them to become the greatest nation on earth.
God would also release 12 specific blessings upon the nation of Israel.
Deuteronomy 28:2 NIV
“All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:”
The word “Bless” means to empower to prosper and succeed.
Deuteronomy 28:3 NIV
“You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.”
The first blessing was a general empowerment to always succeed everywhere, at all times and in every endeavour.
They would be blessed at home, in the city and also at work in the fields.
This blessing filled God’s people with confidence.
It gave them a positive mentality in life. They believed they could do anything they set themselves to do.
Deuteronomy 28:4 NIV
“The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.”
The second blessing was upon everything they produced.
The fruit of their womb meaning “Their children” would be blessed.
Their crops and harvests would be blessed.
Even the young of their cattle, sheep and goats would be blessed.
They would be empowered to grow fat and healthy, and reproduce themselves abundantly.
May God’s specific and relevant blessings come upon you and overtake you.
May you enjoy abundance everywhere and at every time and in every way, in Jesus’ name.
