God entered into the Old Covenant with Israel because of the promises He made to Abraham. God swore to Abraham an oath that He would bless His descendants and give them the land of Canaan.
Genesis 17:7 NKJV
“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.”
God’s gave promises to Abraham and to his seed or descendants. God promised Abraham that his descendants would be numerous and dominant.
Genesis 22:17 NIV
“I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,”
God promised Abraham’s descendants total victory over their enemies with added blessings.
Genesis 22:18 NIV
“And through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
All these promises were given directly to Abraham’s descendants. These promises together with the Law formed the foundation of God’s covenant with the Israelites. Israel’s covenant with Jehovah set them apart from all the people on the earth.
Deuteronomy 7:7 NKJV
“The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples;”
God chose them because of His love, and His faithfulness to keep His promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
“But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
May God’s mighty hand fight all your battles and give you the victory. May Gods mighty power give you dominion over all enemies, in Jesus’ name.
